The present study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of mentalization-based supportive psychotherapy on improving insomnia symptoms and cognitive abilities in chronic cannabis users. The research method was a quasi-experimental design with a pre-test-post-test design with a control group and a three-month follow-up period. The statistical population included cannabis users referring to addiction treatment centers in Tehran in 1403. 30 people were selected based on the convenience sampling method and randomly assigned to two experimental and control groups (15 people each). The intervention consisted of seven 90-minute group sessions (weekly) with a mentalization-based approach and according to the mentalization-based supportive psychotherapy protocol (Vogt et al., 2019). The data collection tools included the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Questionnaire and the Cognitive Abilities Questionnaire (Nejati, 2013), which were completed in three stages. The results were analyzed using repeated measures analysis of variance using SPSS version 26. The findings of this study showed that mindfulness-based psychotherapy can help improve sleep quality and enhance cognitive abilities in chronic cannabis users. This intervention can be recommended as an effective method in the treatment of cannabis addiction.

Purpose: Attention hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is one of the most common neurodevelopmental disorders characterized by symptoms of inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity. The study compared the effectiveness of the Meta-thinking Training Program based on Mental-Brain Simulation (MTMBS) and Clay Art Therapy (CAT) in improving emotion regulation in adolescents with ADHD. Method: This study was a randomized controlled clinical trial of the semi-experimental type in which 45 adolescents with ADHD were randomly placed in three Test and control groups. The emotion regulation difficulty questionnaire of Graz and Romer (2004) and the Connors parenting form grading questionnaire (1978) were used to collect data. The training intervention of both methods was implemented for eight and sixteen sessions of 90 minutes. The data analysis was performed using multivariate covariance analysis and a Bonferroni test. Findings: The results indicated that both therapeutic approaches significantly improved emotion regulation in adolescents with ADHD. A multivariate covariance analysis revealed that the therapeutic interventions accounted for 80 to 83 percent of the changes in various components of emotion regulation. However, Statistical evaluation indicated no significant variance in effectiveness between the treatments. Conclusion: Based on the findings, both therapeutic approaches are equally effective in improving the emotion regulation of adolescents with ADHD. These results have important implications for providing evidence-based therapeutic interventions for this group of patients and can help improve their quality of life and mental health.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between executive function deficits and smartphone addiction, with the mediating role of emotion regulation difficulties, among youth aged 20-35 in Qom province. The research design was descriptive-correlational, employing structural equation modeling. The statistical population comprised youth aged 20-35 residing in Qom province. The sample size, determined using Morgan’s table and the convenience sampling method, was 200 individuals. Data were collected using the Smartphone Addiction Scale-Short Version (SAS-SV), the Behavior Rating Inventory of Executive Function-Adult Version (BRIEF-A), and the Difficulties in Emotion Regulation Scale-Short Form (DERS-16). Data were analyzed using Pearson correlation and path analysis with SPSS and AMOS software. The results indicated no significant relationship between deficits in behavioral regulation skills of executive functions and smartphone addiction. However, a significant positive relationship was observed between deficits in metacognitive skills and smartphone addiction, meaning that metacognitive deficits are associated with higher levels of smartphone addiction. Furthermore, the results showed that difficulties in emotion regulation have a significant positive relationship with executive function deficits in behavioral regulation skills, metacognitive skills, and smartphone addiction. Therefore, attention to the role of executive function deficits and difficulties in emotion regulation as factors associated with smartphone addiction, especially among youth, is essential. Additionally, the findings of this study solely represent correlational relationships, and causal conclusions cannot be drawn from them.
